I say it looks legitimate but that is just my amateur opinion. You should wait for the experts to chime in.
Where did you get this from?

if you want to get max value for this coin you must spend the money to get it graded by ngc or psgs in the states or hard slab it by cccs in QUEBEC. with shipping and insurance cccs 80.00 us services 100.00 or more. its a nice wrong planchet but not that rare look on canadian coin and currecy site graded 25 cents on penny planchets around 700.00 grade it and put it on ebay, good luck

I just started on the post of a 1999 penny?nickel? then it got locked. The other thread was locked because of a rules violation by the OP. It was nothing you did, so there is no problem with you starting a new thread.

If you want to get the coin graded to have in your personal collection then that is cool however by no means will it give you maximum value if you were to sell it. Should you be thinking of selling then throw it on ebay as is. Why waste $50- $100 on grading. Just look at Kevins thread, his coin shot up to $405 before he decided to pull it off ebay! By the way...Welcome aboard Jay68! Nice find! Will you be keeping it or selling it?

i agree, no harm in grading it, especially if you plan on selling it. AT LEAST in a soft slab

If your going to have it certified, I would use ANACS as they are quite cheaper to certify, and should there be any type of flaw, ANACS will still holder it where-as PCGS & NGC will body bag it and keep the certification fees. I know this first hand and will never submit any type of error coin to NGC and PCGS Grading Fees for Error coins are out of my budget.

no point in paying to get it graded/certified. its a 2008 nickel on a cent planchet. paying someone 10%+ of whats its worth to tell you what you (and what any potential buyer) would already know is a waste of $$$
if you are selling save your $$$ and let the final buyer decide what to do (certification or not)
if you are going to keep it you can still put it in a decent attractive holder for just a few dollars

I agree with the slight majority, don't waste your money (or time) getting it graded. It's clear what it is. Get it on ebay and use it to pay off some Christmas bills!

Well that's the difference. It depends if he even wants to sell it. No matter what I would slab it.
