Hello everyone

Grabbed 2 Kennedy's from the bank when I was grabbing some dollar rolls and I think one of them has both sides struck by doubled dies. Doesn't look like machine/strike doubling to me. Also, there are some very distinct split serifs which shouldn't occur if it was MD. Would this be DDO-001 & DDR-001?

Thanks ahead of time!

Just FYI, those are pictures of 1 coin, not 2. I had to take pictures from 2 lighting angles for all of the doubling to be visible.

I'm interested in the verdict on this piece. I'm not sure, as I've never seen the 71 DDO?DDR before.

Not sure if it's the photos or my eyes but I don't see any doubling in the areas you are pointing out. I think I see some in "God" but hard to say if it's doubling or lighting.

I definitely see doubling, but which type it is (whether it be legitimate Doubled Die, or rather just Machine Doubling) is the question. I have very good eyesight (better than 20-20!) and I use a very large HD TV as my computer screen. The coin is roughly 4 feet wide on my computer screen. I can tell you for a fact that the doubling is not caused by lighting, but it is however hidden very well by lighting. I use a scanner (god help me) to take pictures of my coins so it is REALLY a pain to get the lighting to not hide what you're trying to show. I have to move the coin over and over until the lighting hits the opposite side of whatever error I try to show, otherwise it stays hidden under glare. If it helps at all, my coin matches up pretty good with the 1971-P DDO & DDR's that are listed on Variety Vista. The area where I see the most pronounced split Serif is the letter "I" in "IN GOD".

DDO-001
Designation: 1-O-V-CCW from K-9
Description: Strong spread on WE TRUST, BERTY of LIBERTY, and 971 of date.

SDO-001
Designation: SD-1-O-II-C+V-CCW from K-11 (P,D,S)
Description: Light spread on last 1 of date and Y of LIBERTY with rotation on I of IN, TRUST, and E and T of LIBERTY

DDR-001
Designation: 1-R-II-C+V-CCW from K-6
Description: Medium spread on HALF DOLLAR and stars around the circle with rotational spread on UNITED STATES OF AMERICA

I contacted an expert on the subject and he solved this in a matter of 5 minutes. My coin is in fact Doubling, BUT:

"In 1971 the halve design was slightly modified in mid year. The new design had doubling on the master hub. Your coin is from this second master hub. All the coins produced by it will have this type of doubling."

Well, at least I can say I found a DDO now even though it is very common. Now I just gotta buy a microscope to see if this 1917 LWC I have is really a DDO. I'd post it on the forums but my scanner doesn't do the job.
