Since I am not good at determining whether or not a raw coin has the appearance of being cleaned, and what grade would you give it. Seller is saying XF/AU, so it may be a weak strike. I would like to ask the CCF their opinions on this w/rays Shield nickel. The reverse is what grabbed my attention. Thanks! (sellers image) Edited by oih82w8 12/18/2012 06:45 am

I agree with XF/AU a beautiful example of a Longacre classic designed coin! Very cool die cracks give it some real character as well.

High XF with a weak strike IMHO. Those cracks are amazing - if it were me and the price was right, I would buy it.

The asking price is just under AU50 numismedia trends, but the character is what is making my trigger finger itch. I would like to have a similar character 1867 with rays to go alongside my cracked 1867 w/o rays Shield. Hmmm...offer submitted.

I think the sellers grade is just about right, I do not see anything from the pictures that would make me think it was cleaned either so it looks like a nice coin

Using Heritage results as my grading guide, I think this one goes XF40 in a PCGS slab and should be valued around $125. Maybe a little premium for the character if that's your inclination.

Crack-a-Lackin'!
I'm no judge, but it seems like natural surfaces to me. Great eye appeal; I'd be happy to have it represent its kind in my 7070.

Even though the details looks more like a VF coin, the luster is nearly full. I think the coin could grade AU-55 and possibly a bit higher. Neat coin with some nice die cracks!

Wicked nice, awesome eye appeal. It sure is clean for being that worn.
