I appreciate everyone's comments very interesting. I did a quick search on ebay last night of panda sheets from various years and darn they hold their value so as some have said here they have the dual combo of numismatic value and the bullion value. I think, as far as fakes, if you purchase from a well known dealer you are ok- after all if the deal is too good to be true its probably a warning sign to look closer

I have a few Silver Panda's that I have purchased for my daughter and ex-wife so they really aren't mine they are hers but they are still in my collection. They have always had a premium since I have been collecting (since 2003) but it is the one coin that I tried to use to get my ex into collecting along side of me

Check wikipedia Silver Panda and ASE pages for mintage specifics: Population of China: 1,344,000,000 Typical Panda mintage: 100,000 - 600,000 Key Date mintage: 10,000 Population of USA: 311,000,000 Typical ASE mintage: 4,000,000 - 9,000,000 Key Date mintage: 30,000 Ratio China population vs. low-end typical mintage: 13,440 : 1 Ratio USA population vs. low-end typical mintage: 77 : 1 Ratio China population vs. key-date: 134,400 : 1 Ratio USA population vs. key-date: 10366 : 1 With 'supply and demand' in mind, does it make sense that they should be equal in value?

I think when you factor in " ways and means " you can knock about 1.34 billion off the chinese population total who in any way can afford or even know what a silver panda is. So I doubt the premium is tied into the fact that 1 billion farmers and peasants ( sorry, low income Chinese is more PC ) are hoarding silver Pandas.

Americans have a love affair with products from China. Just visit any store and you will see it.

all this discussion has gotten me interested in picking up some pandas now lol I got some proofs but dont have any recent BU's like maybe getting a sheet or some BU pandas.
I been trying to focus just on proof silver 1 oz but one post makes me think that the demand from asia, the lower mintage and changes in diffrent pandas every year makes it a coin I should make an exception for.
plus prices are getting cheaper...

I believe only in the last few years were the citizens of China allowed to own these. This is why IMO the price has dramatically increased.

@tpg22---I don't know if it's so much that we're in love with things made in China, but maybe more that the big-box retailers are drowning us in a sea of low-cost Chinese products without offering us many alternatives. I think 95% of the stuff in Walmart is made in China. I actually try to buy American and specifically avoid buying Chinese, but it's a lost cause and I admit my effort is a dismal failure. Oh, well... At least my bicycle is a high end American-made piece. I paid more for it than I spend in Walmart in 2 years, so maybe my effort isn't a total failure after all.

Oh wow nice coin! I like that one.
I got a sheet of 2013's coming. I am disappointed that there's no regular issue of a proof 1 oz panda based on the BU coin.
You have your medals, 5 oz, kilos,,,, but no regular proof. For me it doesn't match my collection, I don't have a 5 oz, I don't have kilos,, so for me, collecting pandas, by the sheet is the closet I can to getting something proof.. I guess its a compromise, cant get it in proof so i;ll do a sheet of them lol

I picked this one up (23 Dec 2012 hammer & fees) for $49 USD
90326 China 2012 S10Y Silver Panda Early Releases NGC MS-69 US$44.00 US$5.00 US$49.00
So $44 ppd (RAW) would sound pretty good to me!
