New tech? How about a Reverse Proof + Ultra High Relief + Glow in the Dark + Colour + Hologram + Glass Insert coin? Let's make a glass firefly which glow in the dark, staying on a ultra high relief and coloured lily, with a hologram background. And the obverse is the Queen in reverse proof finish.... that would be really interesting.

Well, they can't say farewell to the penny again... or can they? Maybe they'll get rid of the nickel too and milk that one to death also.

I'm done for a while. After I secure some financing for the 1912-1914 series setting me up for the M/C club for 12 months, I will have already spent my allocation of funds for the full year 2013. See you in 2014. Well those flyers will end up directly in the recycle bin for 12 months.

Next gen coins will have touch sensitive OLED screens with Blue Tooth. You can put any image you want on the face of the coin. Queen will still be on the back.

From 1988 wiki - Svend Robinson becomes Canada's first Member of Parliament to come out as homosexual. The obverse could have Elton John instead of Elizabeth II as the queen. His partner, David Furnish, is Canadian so there is another connection. But again, this subject was covered by the Mint in 2012!

On the technology side, I'd like to see:
The first LCD display coin, wirelessly connected to your PC so you can download your images to it.
The first bar-code coin, or with integrated RFID tag. Unique, cannot be copied - fake proof.
The first integrated solar cell/LED coin. Glows anytime, not just in the dark.
(on a more serious note) I think we should have a Titanium coin. Canada is a large producer of Titanium.
Fewer NCLTs. Better quality. No shipping delays.

Saw a few today. Arctic and Cartier- related, nothing striking. NO penny on the next unciruclated, specimen, or proof set either. The 2012 sets should appreciate in (or at least hold their higher than normal) value nicely

@poboxw: Did you happen to notice if the gold-plated commemorative silver dollar was in an "all silver" proof set like last year or if it returned to being part of the base metal proof set like years past?
Thanks!

The only set I don't have is the one with the copper penny.

While I was at the post office today the new "all about coins" sheet that Canada post orders from had the uncirculated set without a one cent coin on the cover. These forms say internal use only so I don't know if any old post office will show customers the info. Also I don't think I am supposed to take pictures of the new uncirculated set on the cover. She is ordering them in for me early January. The UNC set and the other two circulation quarters are all I am planning on getting from the mint in 2013.

The wildlife series is the kind of product I want from the mint. Classic, minimalist, with a low premium. If anything, the series highlights the insane pricing of mint products.
