How do you think that the 2013 offerings will compare with 2012? Do you think that 2012 was an exceptional year for the number of offerings and it will be toned down in 2013 or will there be just as many?
2012 had the various Titanic, Farewell to the Penny and War of 1812 issues in addition to the bread and butter series/sets.
Is there any special commemorative events/anniversaries in 2013 that would have such broad appeal? I don't see the 100th anniversary of Canadian Arctic exploration ranking up there with the 2012 themes.
My search for significant Canadian events in 1813, 1863, 1913, 1963 didn't really generate too much other than continuation of the War of 1812.
Thoughts?

I would hope this is the year they finally scale back. Every year, they keep adding more and more to the annual collection. I feel they are overwhelming collectors. I have already passed several releases myself as I know they are just going to pound out more coins in another couple weeks, and then more in a couple weeks after that. I am probably done until the spring collection, but maybe something will come by.

I am sure they will find something to commemorate. They are already doing a countdown to the 150th, and that is another four years away. There is a Winnie the Pooh Anniversary coming in 2014 commemorating the sale of Winnie in White River. The bear was coincidentally purchased for $20. That would make a good $20 for $20 coin.
I am sure they will do something to celebrate the completion of the railway.
I don't know why we always have to commemorate things, it gets boring after a while. Can't we just do something artistic and Canadian? The $20 for $20 Polar Bear and Canoe are good examples of what I like in a coin.

jpaiva83: LOL - That is probably the same database that the Mint actually uses to figure out what to do next.

I completed a survey awhile ago that related to the 2014 coins. Lots of anniversaries to 'celebrate' including Winnie the Pooh as Lithanial mentioned.
I did the survey a year ago for 2013 but can't recall what was in it. It's safe to say that there will be 150 or more coins issued in 2013 since the mint stated as much in their latest report.

I hope there will be some (1 or 2, but not too many) ultra high relief coins in 2013.

Pulled off of wikipedia How about an anniversary celebrating the refusal of Canada to station US nuclear missiles on its soil? A closed hand with a middle finger shaped like a missile pointing towards the sky, and to make it more Canadian the Maple as a backdrop...enameled red of course for the new flag Pearson helped establish. More unlikely is a commemorative of Lester B. Pearson one of the few Canadian PMs that should have his own coin. Surely the Harper gov would be willing to support the liberal party celebrating this man? After that coin we can have one that speaks to our francophone heritage with a man building a pipe bomb with Liberte scrolled down the pipe...in blue as its only fitting. February 4: Defence Minister Douglas Harkness resigns after Prime Minister Diefenbaker refuses to accept nuclear weapons from the United States. February 5: The Diefenbaker government collapses over the Bomarc nuclear missile issue and an election is called. April 8: Federal election: Lester Pearson's Liberals win a minority, defeating John Diefenbaker's PCs. April 20: The Front de libération du Québec sets off its first bombs in Quebec. April 22: Lester Pearson becomes Prime Minister, replacing John Diefenbaker. It is surprising that there was no hoopla for any Canadian space achievements in 2012. Roberta Bondar was the 1st Canadian woman in space 20 years ago, and not to forget that in 1962 Canada put its 1st satellite the Alouette 1 into orbit, 50 years ago!

@poboxw
The platinum maple started in '88 as well, kind of doubt they would coin anything for it though.

Hope they have some new coins with new tech. Like the glow in the dark dinosaur this year.
