It is surprising that there was no hoopla for any Canadian space achievements in 2012. Roberta Bondar was the 1st Canadian woman in space 20 years ago, and not to forget that in 1962 Canada put its 1st satellite the Alouette 1 into orbit, 50 years ago!

Roberta Bondar is from my home town in Ontario..... I remember being in elemntary school at the time. Was cool to meet her.

I didn't take a close enough look to tell. The best I can say is that there will be a gold gilded versus non-gold gilded versions of the double dollar sets.

No penny in the sets? Odd. That all but kills my interest in future proof sets.

^^^^^
Canada eliminated the penny. 2012 is the last year for pennies.

I wonder if the lack of a penny will reflect a reduced price on the 2013 sets? After all the pennies taken from these sets typically sell for a few dollars (at least from the proof and specimen sets).

poboxw> Is the only difference in these sets that the commemorative dollar has gold plating or are there differences in the other coins as well? (i.e. different composition as the case with 2012)

@canuck1us:
Again sorry, I'm not sure. I was busy bashing the RCM shipping delays with the dealer and forgot to check. The other coins were gold Cartier and silver 100th of Canadian Arctic exploration

I'm sure they'll continue the pure 9999 silver proof set.

Based on previous years, the first release of coins in 2013 should be available beginning the first week or so of January.

Does anybody know when the products arrive in the Mint Boutiques? Do they come earlier or the day the Mint puts them up on their webstore?
