I have put together a few sets over the years ...
one from circulation before they removed silver
from our coinage - and on occasion, I'd locate a
very nice collectable coin... VF/XF and on a rare
find - through roll searching, I'd find an AU.

Over the course of 4 years, while in college,
I attempted to complete an AU+/MS collection
from dealers' inventories at coin shows. I never
did quite finish that set - and ended up selling
it after college.

A few years passed and I found myself looking at
them with a new perspective, I was only interested
in coins with well struck heads. That set was finally
completed after about a dozen years.

Sold that set [ as well as almost all my coins ] and
ventured into other fields... only to return back in 1994.

Since then, I have worked on a number of collections,
simultaneously, and that culminated in my being ranked
number five all time finest [ with varieties ] at PCGS;
it was not only a surprise but also an honor to tie
the great Louis Eliaberg's set...

Sorry to say, but, I sold that collection as well,
bought a summer cottage with the proceeds on Cape Cod.

A year after selling the cottage, I decided I missed
my collection of SLQ's and have been working on yet
another collection.

I am missing the overdate [ I very well may never get one]
and the 1927-S. This set is lower in grade from the last
one - although I think the look is far superior.

I hope collectors will post their favorites - and I'm
curious to see how this new Thread plays out.

I'm fairly new here - and I have not seen another SLQ
Thread ... so... lets see your Favorite coins !!

I'll start with one from my Father's birthyear !

I for one would love to see more of your set. I think we can all agree the standing liberty set
is one of the great American sets; and has a lot of followers here at CCF.
I know I get a thrill just seeing a dated 1916.
My collection contains less than 10 VF-EF examples of common dates and some day I will
get a dansco and actually pursue the set although the 1916 will never be within my means,
at least not one that looks like anything.

One of the classic beauties of American Coinage. I have two (1917-P Type I & II) in my (7070) collection, I may add a Type III (1925-30 recessed date) just for giggles!

Elbesaar, your Type I is really nice!

Wow what a beauty! I have always liked this design and started a circulated set in a very old Dansco folder. I don't think that it will ever be finished though.

Some day I hope to. The prices are just a little too high for me right now. Maybe they will always be that way (but I can hope).

As with most of my collection, I have several of those started. All are in basically G to EF grades and none are complete. Difficult to concentrate on one type of coin with over 100 Albums attempting to fill.

Word of advice from someone who has been in your shoes.
It's impossible to even try and work on more than one series
at a time, unless you're doing a type set.

Concentrate on just one or two sets - stay with just those sets.
Don't even look at things that are not directly connected with
either of those two sets. Before you know it, you've completed
the set(s) and can move on.

I started with V nickels because I was given some XF/AU raw coins
from my Grandfather - once I completed that set, I moved onto Barber
Dimes, and when that set was almost completed, I started the Quarter
collection ( my dealer found a coin I wanted to start the set with :
1909-O in AU 58 ). Once the Quarter set was 90% completed, I went
for the Halves.

During the time it took me to finish these sets, I worked on only
one other collection... continuously, the SLQ collection. I never
had more than two sets going at any given time.

You'll feel more organized, won't buy hole fillers, and you'll
have a feeling of major accomplishment when you're finished.

I have a complete set. Most are VF or better except the 1916 which is an Anacs G-4 that I got from Johnny. This series is one of my favorites.

I'm excited to see the pictures of the Standing Liberty quarters. I love the pics you posted of the Barbers on Moe's 25 Days of Barbers.
I have some lower grade SLQs that I have collected over the years. This is one of my favorite designs!

Beautiful Coins Elbesaar!

I have always loved the look of the SLQ, but I have never actively collected them.

Ok, this thread is going to do me in. When the show season starts up in Feb. I'm finding one of these. That is a beautiful coin. So much detail to get lost in.
