Great coins, the Thasos Stater is my personal favourite there since I could only afford the drachm version of that coin.

The rest are also good, the Darius and the Turtle being favourites of mine.

Again a good selection of varieties, something for everyone ^^

You asked for comments: #'s 1, 11, 12 and 14 strike me as great coins to be proud of and which I would love to have in my collection. #15 would join this group depending on what that blob is. It bothers me. If you poke it with a toothpick and it pops off - great coin. If it is solid metal, I'd send it for a Sear certificate asking him to comment on what it is. #2 is not up to the stevex6 standard and will be upgraded soon with a little looking. I do not consider the type incuse enough to make the bunch anyway. Overall I'd only worry about you burning out from buying too many too fast and losing interest when you reach a point that it is hard to find new thrills at the accustomed rate. I've seen it happen. If you are going to spend so much, I'd probably suggest buying fewer and better coins lest your collection end up looking like mine with 10% gems and 90% hard to sell. I'll follow with a few favorite incuse coins but I'll try to stick to coins I'd buy again if I had a do-over.

Awesome, thanks dougsmit => I agree with my #2 (I almost didn't include it in the group ... but it still is technically an incuse square, so I included it)

=> yah, I am "really" hoping that the blob ends-up being explainable (it is from my favourite seller, so it would be quite a shame to use the ol' fake-refund option) ... but I am going to send it to David Sear in the New Year

Please post some of your incuse winners (I know you have several that made my mouth drop!!)

=> thanks again for the comments (it is always refreshing to get the honest truth)

Cheers

I'll start with another Kyzikos obol. Finding these with both sides on flan can take looking but they exist.

X6's-Organized-Mayhem-=>-The-Incuse-Collection

Trikka, Thessaly hemidrachm 420-400 BC Note this is a hemidrachm and both animals are only half shown

X6's-Organized-Mayhem-=>-The-Incuse-Collection

Running kings from Persia come in four distinct versions of which I only have three. This is the second most rare. I'd love one showing him waist up only.
This type (Darius 510-486 BC) is often well struck compared to the later ones.

X6's-Organized-Mayhem-=>-The-Incuse-Collection

Similar and in poor shape but not poor 'for these' is this 1/12 siglos. It is from the last of the four types showing the king with a dagger rather than a spear (the other common one). These are common as sigloi but rare as fractions.

X6's-Organized-Mayhem-=>-The-Incuse-Collection

Finally my favorite incuse coin from the incuse series I'd love to have complete if I were rich. Italian towns of the early 5th century BC issued coins raised on one side and incuse on the other. The big ones are the same on both sides and the idea fr them is often credited to Pythagoras who lived in the region at the time. They look like brockages but the dies for the reverse were made to strike recessed. I only have a couple of the most common ones in poor condition. This Metapontum is a 1/12 (I think)and shows the city badge ear of wheat on the obverse. The reverse, however, shows a single grain in incuse. These are not all that easy to find. An acsearch search (incuse) will show you several of the big guys which I'd love to have. It will be harder to find a set of the little guys.

One last coin. At the end of the incuse period some cities issued larger coins much thicker than the wide spread, early and expensive kind. They were not nearly as impressive but that fact made this one fall in my price bracket decades ago.

Wow ... I absolutely love the ol' archaic incuse squares/punches

=> I love your Running-Man ... and your Kyzikos obol is obviously better than my example (very nice)

=> I've checked-out the Trikka, Thessaly hemidrachm, but they are usually out of my price range (I'll have to hunt a bit more to score one of these babies!!)

... very cool additons, dougsmit (thank you, dawg!!)
