25g is a bit high for the buyers but I think the seller will cancel the bidding because I've seen the same seller cancel even though he gets around 22-24

Your spot on quang. He just cancelled the auction. I didn't know that you can just cancel a auction on ebay. I don't think the bidders would be to impressed.

If it had sold that would've been a GIANT BARGAIN! He is better off going to a dealer

Has anyone else seen these particular notes listed previously and then cancelled? How odd.

The seller seems to have been honest about it, I noticed they've added the comment:
On 29-Dec-12 at 20:48:02 AEDST, seller added the following information:
"PLEASE NOTE" *AS OF 8.45pm ON SATURDAY NIGHT THE 29th DECEMBER 2012 I DECIDED TO CANCEL THIS LISTING, AS I WAS NOT HAPPY WITH THE $23,000 DOLLARS THAT MY SIXTEEN STAR NOTES WERE SITTING ON, WHICH WAS JUST TOO LOW TO ALLOW THIS AUCTION TO RUN IT'S COURSE. YOU CAN RING ME ON MY ABOVE LISTED PHONE NUMBERS, IF YOU'D LIKE TO ASK ME ANYTHING.

Did he seriosuly expect better prices with such a poorly constructed listing and relatively low feedback. A proper auction would be the way to go.

The listing is poorly constructed and described. Usually when a listing is constructed like this, it really shows that the seller doesn't know much about what he is selling and therefore you could really be buying anything...that's the problem. Dismal photos describing the notes as "extremly high grade / unc" is way too broad for my liking, especially when the price difference of a single note could be $20,000, when comparing aUNC and UNC.. He then describes "WHILST THE REMAINING NOTES RANGE FROM aV/F TO A VERY HIGH GRADE AS WELL." That doesn't say much about anything, except say that the notes range from seven or so grades. ?!? The sellers doesn't describe whether the notes have been pressed or restored in anyway. This has a huge bearing on the price. Having said all that, if the notes really are nice, I would be recommending to him that he break them up and list each one individually with decent photos and accurate descriptions. High caliber notes should be sold through auction, where at least someone who is/should be accountable for the grading, rather than state high grade/UNC and then write "I'm NO EXPERT IN GRADING, SO ALL NOTES ARE BEING SOLD IN A STRICTLY "AS IS" CONDITION" He'll never sell them for what he wants on ebay, unless they are gold and someone who has seen them know this.. but then again if they were, he wouldn't be selling them on ebay....thats my thoughts.. And by the way, I've yet to buy and rarely seen a correctly described pre decimal paper note on ebay. Most of the buyers who are holding their notes will realise once they go to sell, they got burnt...I've been burnt many times.

I spoke to the guy who is listing the items. Seems genuine (but then again, doesn't everyone selling things on ebay until you meet them). I'm looking at arranging a time with him tomorrow to have a real look at the notes. I said I'd give him $22k, but he wants quite a bit more. I said to him, I need to see them in person. According to him, the money is going to help pay for a large portion of his daughters recent wedding. He is apparently on pension. He apparently inherited a big collection of notes 14 years ago. He sold a note 8 years ago & since then has only been holding onto the collection for a rainy day...what do we really think? Should I meet him? Also, sorry Graeme...I take it you're from the Northern burbs, at least it's a lot better than the Melbourne's Western burbs.

No harm in meeting with him to view the notes, obviously you wouldn't pay him on the day, but based on what you see offer to buy them for a fair price or maybe just a couple of notes if you feel the majority are poor.

IMO it would probably be well worth your time and effort Goatie. Keep in mind I did find a few that could have been recent purchases (see above comments etc). A quick google of the other serials should find any others that fit that scenario (I gave up after finding the tear and repair). It may be a decent bargaining point to be able to refer to them perhaps being bought recently and stating the price etc, but that could backfire too. I may be wrong too and it could have been him listing it in the Perth classifieds or in the Noble auction. Anyhow, good luck! Don't forget to sample the aroma!

He probably is genuine, main point is, is what he has, what is described? IF you think you can strike an agreeable deal and the notes are quality, go for it! Some advice for you, which is the truth... You can push his price down by saying star notes are not the golden favourites like they used to be, they are less popular recently and the prices and unsold auction lots reflect this. You can let him know that by you paying him 22k for example he is instantly saving around 15 to 20 % on auction fees. Also he doesn't have to wait months for the money. Lastly use yr latest guide, I believe the prices have been 'guided' lower.

If he asks for cash tell him to GO AWAY! He seems dodgy enough with the story and all
