I recently added this to my US type set. A 1943-d Walking Liberty half. I am sticking with ungraded coins for this set and going for the highest grade example I can afford for each type. I went with a fairly common date, but the condition was the key determining factor.

EF,

I'd be curious to know the grade that this coin sold for; please share that info.

I paid somewhere between a 63 and 64 for this (depending on what source you use as a benchmark). The seller had it priced as an MS-64 but I was able to talk them down some because it was ungraded. The seller pulled out a 1943-D that was graded at MS-66 by NGC that I was able to compare it to, but this coin didn't quite reach that condition in my opinion. I hope I didn't overpay.

when you get to the older and more expensive coins, you may want to buy slabbed and crack out......buying raw rare coins can be risky as there are plenty of fakes
