Is $20 the lowest denomination for the polymer notes? If so, any plans for the $5 and $10 notes? I was looking at the $20 polymers on ebay but they are a bit much in price in my opinion.

There are plans for the $5 and $10 notes to be polymer.
This will happen sometime in the new year.

$5 and $10 polymer notes are planned for 2013.
$20 polymer are starting to appear in large numbers and the paper versions will like be gone from circulation by the end of next year.

The notes look sharp, especially that $20. I have never held a polymer note before. Are these widely circulated yet?

The $50 is widely circulated, with the $20 being mixed in with the older 'paper' notes, and not as widely circulated.

I'm sure a CDN member would zip you down a $20 at face value if you were interested. I wouldn't pay a premium for it. Or you could check at your bank or currency exchange down there and see if they have them. It should be all that is being handed out by the bank of Canada as the old ones will be given back for destroying.

With the new polymer notes being far more durable than thei paper cousins, I wonder if the Federal Government will ever consider bringing back the $1.00/$2.00 bills in polymer?

@glenzy: I sure hope not. If anyone cares to read my comments here they would know I despise these notes because they are so slippery. Paper money in general irks me but these plastic bills are like ducks! Last week I took a chance with the ATM hoping I wouldn't get ripped off and thankfully I didn't but these things stick together when they are new so it's super-easy to pass off an extra note without noticing. I like toonies and loonies - despite them being made of cheap toy-like materials now.

I think polymer is fine for $100 and $50 because people hardly use those, but I guess the initiative is for the public to not be scared of using them anymore due to the security features. It'll take a while for the bad guys to catch up. Why they don't have bar codes to track legitimate bills from a database I'll never know. (Serial numbers matching up to real printed notes and hasn't been scanned anywhere far away in the country.)

I personally don't like the $20s as they are hard to keep together in any kind of wad. Lst month I brought a bunch to a banker to pay a bill and they exploded in his hand!

I have no problems with the new polymer notes. When counting them, simply use the raised parts of the bills. Girls at the bank still rifle through them without any issue when I visit.
I find them very appealing to the eyes, not so much to the nose though :)

with AZTAMT.

I also agree with Libertad that they stick together when they are new. They are fine once theyve been handled a few times. Just gotta get use to it.

True, but Australia had a good reason for doing it. You guys can't surf with paper money in your pockets! :P

Errr, yeah, I will gladly trade anyone my polymer for their paper or coin. Anyday.

Most exciting part of new polymer bills is the chance to get my hands on a low serial number. Saw 0000085 on ebay last week.
Just started collecting notes last year, would be cool to get a solid radar from circulation! :)
