Well, I looked at all the SLQs. As suspected they were heavily worn-- these were all pulled from a cash register during the 30's-60's. Almost all are P, FR, AG, or G. Darn, I was hoping for a few less worn coins to keep. The good news is that there was one type1, just a 1917 but it was nice to find it. And it was one of the last ones pulled from the bag-- I'd just about lost hope of finding a type 1. Although the date is barely discernible it was of course instantly recognizable. It has a different patina too (these pictures don't show it well, haven't properly tweaked the new USB scope). It's a beige-ish silver and is rather matte compared to the rest of our SLQs.

I suppose the assortment and condition is not surprising given the history. 257 coins, 22 unreadable dates (pre-1925 based on the lack of recess at the date position), the rest broken down as follows:

1925: 40
1926: 34
1926-D: 2
1926-S: 6
1927: 39
1927-D: 1
1927-S: 2
1928: 24
1928-D: 4
1928-S: 6
1929: 40
1929-D: 2
1929-S: 3
1930: 26
1930-S: 5

Estimating a grade for all of these coins was pretty straightforward for all except this 1917. Grading these was mostly just for practice because there's not much movement of value in the lowest grades.

Seems like the wear pattern is different for the type 1s so I found it hard to estimate the grade.

Hi,

I would estimate a G-4 grade on this one.

I'd agree with a G-4 grade.
