To help with an Ike I was given a link to here.
http://varietyvista.com/Variety%20M...d%20dies.htm

Instantly I was waist deep in linguistic quicksand.

What's MDO, DMR, UVC, ODV, RDV stand for?

I've seen DDR and DDO. That site has a page of abreviations at http://conecaonline.org/content/abbreviations.html

So I googled for "Die Marriage Registry" and got (strangely) sites about weddings. Did I miss the Cliff's Notes or is this just going to take a long while to come up to speed on?

Some of those terms originate from CONECA itself and are not widely used. I assume MDO refers to obverse master die doubling which produces many more doubled dies than the standard hub doubling that is isolated to only one die. DMR and UVC are CONECA cataloging terms. ODV is Obverse Die Variety and RDV is Reverse Die Variety, both terms are used to denote slight changes to the die design for years in which both designs were used.
