Is their a variety for the 1878 S Trade dollar with a un-connected olive leaf? I think I might have one of them and was wondering where I might find more information on Trade dollar varieties. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I'm just curious, did you mention the details grade in the ebay ad after you cracked it out of the slab? (happened to read your post before you edited all that out)

Besides that, here's a good Trade dollar page: http://www.tradedollarnut.com/Home%...78/1878S.htm

No I didn't mention the details grade when listed on ebay. I didn't list any grade either just the pictures. I edited my original post because I wasn't getting any responses. Felt it was to long like this response so I shortened it. I was asking 999.99 OBO which is about the MS60 value based on NGC's site. Thanks for the link. I read the article but it didn't mention the un-connected olive leaf. However the picture was of the same variety I think.

ok. I don't remember what the exact grade was on the slab, but in here it's a BIIIIG no-no to crack open a detailed coin and list it wihtout mentioning it.

Didn't see any varieties on a disconnected leaf either. Didn't google much about it though...

The grade was UNC details with comments of OBV improperly cleaned. Again the reason I removed it was based on the opinion of the coin expert that the coin was never cleaned and he felt if re-submitted it may get a MS grade without the comment of OBV improperly cleaned. This is the first coin I have ever removed from the original holder. Again I am not trying to sell this coin to anyone on this forum but rather trying to find some information about the variety before deciding whether to resubmit or not. If you want a variety grade from NGC you have to submit as such and pay a higher cost.

Not mentioning the details grade by the grading service in the description is in violation of ebay rules regarding coins.

It's a BIG no-no to list any coin cracked out of details slab and not mention it anywhere you might sell it. Making a practice of doing that will earn you a reputation you really don't want to have.

I didn't know that it was a violation of ebay rules but I will not remove any coins from holders in the future. Thanks for your reply.
