05:36 PM Mountain Standard Time on Monday, April 9, 2007 By The Associated Press With release of Arizona's State Quarter now a year away, Governor Napolitano is letting Arizonans have the chance to help pick the final design. Under an online voting page that Napolitano's office plans to put on the governor's Web site at midday Tuesday, Arizonans will be able to rank each of the five designs on a 1-to-5 scale. Three of the five designs are based in whole or part on the Grand Canyon. One of those also includes a desert landscape with Saguaro cactus while another design is devoted entirely to that theme. The final design depicts Navajo codetalkers during World War Two. A Napolitano spokeswoman says the governor will take Arizonans' suggestions seriously but that she ultimately makes the decision Here is the home page http://azgovernor.gov/index2.aspI do not see it available yet.

Well, finally, I get to vote on SOMETHING in Arizona. I just registered to vote (part of my change of residency) late last November only to learn AZ votes only every other year.

I love #3... awesome design. #2 would be a close second for me. As a non-Arizonan, (I have visited), the Grand Canyon and cactus are things I always remember/associate with Arizona, so I would like to see either of those designs. Very cool website, thanks for the link!

Just my honest opinion, but all of the quarter designs with the exception of #2 have the look more of commemorative's. I do however like all of the designs, especially #5. Very nice. Thanks for sharing. BTW, it seems from the link that they are accepting the "poll" with no limitations on what state you are from. I was under the impression this was an Arizona only questionnaire?

Bruce, Try Morgan Fred's Link right above your post. His link should take you right to it. I just voted. I like #3 the best

What I'd like to know is where is the roadrunner? There should be one on at least one of the choices, but I guess not. It's one of the first things I think about when I hear Arizona. LeAnn

I saw one this morning... roadkill. They're all over the place around here. Maybe the designers decided to leave them off the quarter since they cause a lot of accidents when they blitzkrieg their way across the roads right in front of vehicles. I've got one living around my place and I have yet to get a good any picture of it since it just won't sit still for more than 0.01 second. Besides, I'd rather see a rattlesnake (preferably a sidewinder) if a quarter is gonna show any wildlife. I also voted for #3. The Grand Canyon gets enough publicity, isn't really representative of Arizona (IMNSHO) as a whole, and is too touristy. Since I live in the desert which more closely represents AZ (again, IMNSHO) and the quarter has a good portrayal of the desert complete with Arizona's iconic Saguaro cactus, I think #3 is most appropriate. Of course, folks should know that it's the kiss of death for anything for which I vote, so one of the others will likely win.

Yeah, it appears that way - anyone can vote. And can vote as often as they want. I don't see how they could lock out non-Arizonies since so many folk have dynamic (floating) IP addresses which don't necessarily represent their actual location - since I'm on satellite, my IP leads back to Maryland. Just to see if I could, I voted a second time and it went through. No nasty pop-up windows threatening me with mortal danger for vote tampering. I suspect this poll is more of a publicity and PR stunt than anything that will actually lead to a decision on the quarter's design.

As the artical states:
A Napolitano spokeswoman says the governor will take Arizonans' suggestions seriously but that she ultimately makes the decision
I hope #3 wins

I live in Scottsdale and no design would be complete without the most common critter found around these parts this time of year. Where's the picture of the ubiquitous "SNOW-BIRD" ? After all, they pay the rent...
FYI: I'm for #1, because we're just grand.

Avery, a warm welcome to the forum and to another Zonie! Technically, I'm a snowbird since I live in the desert in winter (LaPaz Co, not near anywhere but in the middle of nowhere), move up to the mountains (Prescott, then Coconino National Forests) in summer. The coin designers are more than welcome to use my portrait on the AZ quarter as representative of a snowbird - I can guarantee that folks would much prefer to circulate the coin rather than collect it. Anything to get rid of it! It would get all those quarters into circulation rather than hoarding. Fred
