What are your thoughts on this one.. Is it a proof? Does it go AU or MS? I'm not real sure how to distinguish Proof vs Business strike with Half Dimes --- but this appears to be very well struck either way:

strong luster on the relief...really nice...I'm saying MS because I can see the mirrors are original and unmolested...lots of hits on it but its never seen circulation imo

Found out from another source that this coin likely is a business strike from proof dies. Several things to note -- but in his eyes the denticles arent sharp enough to be proof, the rims arent square enough, and it's missing the mesa/plateau effect on top of the lettering and date.

That makes sense, many coins were struck from Proof Dies after the proof coins were finished being struck the dies just got put into regular duty. I know the 1872 Proof Two Cent was struck form several dies. one bieing the rare DDO, but all known die marrages were used in proof and regular business strikes.

Check for the overdate! Breen 3102. Look between the "6" and the second "1" for remains of a "0".

I would say it's a business strike intended for circulation as well. Is it really that dark or were you having a lighting issue? She sure is nice! I have a 1861/0 that is very similar in color, not trying to hijack your thread, for comparison only. (I really need to get a better/larger image of this coin for my photobucket).
