I found this large cent in a coin shop and bought it on a whim, as I didnt have any large cents yet. After I got it home, I noticed some sort of impression on the reverse rim. Is this an error or damage? Any idea what it would grade?

Thanks for the review.

Glad to know its more likely a mint error. I showed the coin to a local dealer at a coin show previously...he told me it was damaged and worth about 5 bucks. I'm glad I didn't believe him. As far as the error goes, how would it affect the value of the coin, if at all?

Thanks again,

Pacific Silver

It's a minor error so I don't think it affects the value in my mind. I might pay a few bucks more just because it's neat. Regarding the grade, it has too much hair detail for a fine. I'd grade it VF-20 myself and that is a fair grade I think. I can't tell if it has been cleaned or not without seeing it in person. I'll gladly double what that dealer offered for it...LOL @ $5.

Yeah, he made me laugh too! I'm probably not going to be selling it in the near future as its the first large cent I've gotten for my collection but I appreciate the offer :)
