I was thinking of ways to acquire a "problem free" example of the Panama-Pacific Expo Commemorative Half Dollar last night;

1. Make a deposit at the blood bank
2. Get a "third" job
3. Sell some of my gold coins (I only have four: Type I $1, Liberty & Indian $2.5 and Liberty $5)

1) No - I don't have enough blood to acquire what I want.
2) No - Then I won't have any time to look at my "pretties", and I am starting my Masters Degree (Aeronautical Science, specializing in Education) in two weeks.
3) Seems the most logical - They are nice to look at, but I really did not have a desire to "obtain" any gold until I got really close to the end of my 7070.

Am I experiencing "tunnel-vision" on this last "spot" in my slabbed 7070 collection?

oih82w8,

First of all, you are a coin collector. This is part of every collectors dilemma. Keep, sell, trade, buy, steal, break kids piggy bank or rape the college fund. I decided a while back to collect any coin I can get a good/great deal on. If I hunted any specific coin I would need to be institutionalized. I can go overboard due to my type of personality. I still have the remains of many old hobbies plus the memories and loss of money from others.

On a side note, is your avatar a WWII Fighter Squadron patch? I went through some of my WWII guides and other sources trying to locate this design. We are among the few who use non-coin avatars. In case you are wondering, I actually ride my avatar.

It's a partial of the squadron patch (created by Walt Disney, based on the original emblem which was approved by the Army Air Force in 1945) from the 32nd TFS (Tactical Fighter Squadron), Soesterberg Air Base, The Netherlands, in which I was stationed 1989-92 (the BEST three years of my 24 year Air Force career!)

made a 3 day stop in Amsterdam on my way to the EUFA Championship in Spain back in May 2003. BEST 72 hours of my life...from what I can barely recall...

anyhoo

patience is a virtue my friend...save over the next 6 months and then you can afford the coin without having to do any of the above...

and congrats on your pursuit of a higher education...best decision any one of us can make and teach our children to strive for...

And how many people would have recognized this to be a fighter squadron insignia?

Military collectibles. It's more than a hobby.
