Are others noticing an increase in State Quarters in About Uncirculated condition in the past year? Today I received a sparkling 2008-D Alaska quarter in change, and I was reminded that I've been observing this phenomenon quite frequently of late.

I've references on this board to "the Great Quarter Dump of 2008," but I swear I've seen a noticeable pickup even more recently, in the past six months to a year. I'm talking about coins that look like they've barely circulated at all.

A few weeks ago I received three AU 2006-P Colorado's as change in a single transaction, and I found them nice enough to keep, even though I'm no particular fan of clad coins.

There have been numerous other examples.

I've been finding many AU-MS 1999-2008 quarters in circulation. However, I have seen no ATB Quarters in any condition. Where are they?

I just got a stunning BU South Dakota-D Quarter today.

There was indeed a "great coin jar dump of 2008-9", but what we're seeing now is saved BU rolls being spent because coin shops won't buy most BU State Quarter rolls for anything more than face value.

I've been finding the ATB's showing up more and more. What I still haven't found is an '09 Nickel.

I must be in a relative ATB hot spot. I don't roll hunt quarters, but just picking them out of the coffee club coin cup at work I've gotten 3 or 4 full rolls of various ATB Quarters so far.

I feel your pain Dusto5. I've been through many boxes of nickels and have yet to find one 2009 nickel.

There's another factor at play here. Some of the FED districts are still swamped in coins since '08 and are still pulling coins from stockpile meaning lots of higher grade states coins. Some of these will even be shipped to other districts that have demand for new coin. Coins that have been stored for a long time tend to be pretty dirty. Your hands will turn black going through them. The blacker your hands the longer they've been in storage and the higher the percentage that have been in storage.
Time don't fly, it bounds and leaps.

I have noticed a slight increase in ATB Quarters in circulation over the last month or so. As for the 2009 nikel, I find a few in every box of nickels I have hunted. HH and GL all.

I get an occasional nice State Quarter in change. Not many though. I wish I could get even circulated ATB Quarters. I don't get any at all. And I have never seen a 2009 nickel in change either. I did get a beautiful 2004-D Keelboat nickel in change last week. Looked like it came out of a roll (or someone's collection). I put it in my nickel book because it was so nice.

All. The. Frakken. Time. If I'd been at work early instead of second shift the other day I could have gotten all five 1999 designs in BU--IN ROLLS.

I'm wondering if it'd be worth my time to pull 'em and sell 'em one by one, or just stick with my ATB stockpile.

This story may explain somewhat why new State Quarters are showing up in circulation. About 3 months ago I went to a local bank asking for new coins. They said that someone had just turned in about $2500 in US mint $25 bags and I could have any of them at face value. I got a few of the bags I still needed, but had to leave the rest. They told me they would be opening the bags and putting the new State Quarters in circulation at the end of the year. Well, I think that time has come so I may be seeing a bunch on BU-AU State Quarters in my area. I guess someone felt they just don't have the value they thought they would.
