As some of you may know, I have recently started stacking silver. I prefer generic rounds, because they have low premiums and I'm in it just to have silver as an investment. I have a safe, but I figured it would just be cooler if I stored all of my silver in this. My dad made four of them with some extra wood he had.

The word is "distress." Do a search for "how distress wood" and there are all kinds of ideas. The skull and cross bones will need to be toned down as well. The handles need some staining - strong tea should do the trick. The screws need to be hidden - a little wood putty, a few drops of a stain, and it will make them look like wooden pegs.
And then, fill her up!

That is nice and looks cool, however, if you are going to stack say 30+ once's I highly recommend one of these.

WOW thats very cool, I like it! just filler up with silver, (dont forget about gold if you can).
Just, make sure you keep it hidden well and dont advertise it to all your friends, be a shame someone stole your hard earned savings in silver :/

Nice treasure chest. Think if I were you, I'd opt for an ammo box to stick inside of it. They are air tight and won't tarnish your silver like the wood will.

Yes, that is a VERY cool pirate chest, no doubt. I would not choose it to store my silver hoard, though. It's just too obvious and too portable. It would make an outstanding decoy hoard container, though. Just the thing for a smash, grab, and run thief who has neither the time nor the skills to get into your safe.

I have a safe, and when my brother moves out I will move into his old room and install it there. I'm thinking of making a little hideaway in the wall and putting the safe in there. I will put most of my silver in it, but I love the look of silver in something decorative.
Edit - Also, no one would ever even think of robbing my house. There is always someone home and we know how to handle ourselves.

YoungN-
good good, love the idea of a false wall also, and a safe.
Well that's good. But remember, this is a crazy world and people will do whatever and do crazy stuff if they know there's something valuable so please please PLEASE don't get too confident. Last thing you need is some *hole to take your hard work, money and savings in a 5 mins!
wishing you a pirates booty bigger than Kim K AND JLo put together hahahahaha!

I'm going to buy more bars than rounds, so I'm thinking rounds in the chest and bars in the safe. Also, by more bars than rounds, I mean about 1 round per every 5 bars. I am going to be buying slowly until I get a job, so this amount could work for that amount of time. I buy the stuff so that it can be easily viewed and not locked away, hidden from sight. It irks me when people put beautiful things where they are hard to view.

Quote: It irks me when people put beautiful things where they are hard to view. I completely understand how you feel. But let me tell you a little story. When I was a teenager my aunt would give us a new Ike dollar for Christmas. I had the 71-76 type I nicely displayed on the book shelf in the living room and a friend of mine was over. I went to the bathroom and came back out to find him and the 5 Ike's gone. I ran out jumped on my bike and rode as fast as I could to the store that was a little over a mile down the road where he had taken my Ike's on his bike to buy bottle rockets. I knew they were mine but could not prove it. Needless to say I was out my $5 bucks which were worth more than that to me, and a friend, who really wasn't a friend at all.

Slow an steady in your stacking endeavors you will most definitely win the race. And may I say, your treasure chest put a smile on my face. You have one great father. Just remember that. Good luck.

Tim makes a great point.
All it takes is someone who you "think" is your "friend" and either they or their friends do something stupid.
Especially when it comes down to money, people change and lose their honesty, loyalty, etc.
Bottom line, one must be very careful always.

I know which ones I can trust. I "screen" my friends before I trust them because I've been through the fake friends situation before, let's just say they were dropped faster than Pacquiao in his last match. The ones I have now wouldn't try that stuff.
