I know when weighing the 83's you are looking for the golden 3.1g coin, but we all find the dreaded 2.5g (+-) zincoln. My question is this, what is the discrepancy for the weights, because I find some that are like 1.8~2.2g. this seems to be a bit drastic of fluctuation (up to 28%) this seems really high. I could understand if these coins were eaten with zinc rot, but the 3 I have in my hand are perfect (all 3 are D mm). Thoughts? Report this Post to the Staff

Usually it's a simple matter of re-weighing to get an accurate result. My scale is electronic (as I suppose most are these days) and it can get fussy with tare weight and if I drop a coin on it from too high up. I once got a very nice proof cent in a roll and my first weighing of it was 5.5g. I had a ? moment before I reweighed it at the customary 3.1g. BTW, I don't always get 3.1. Sometimes 3.0 or 3.2. Same variance from the 2.5. Report this Post to the Staff

I do have a digital scale, I was weighing my bag of 1983 cents I had pulled out of CRHing and these 3 were obviously different. Report this Post to the Staff
