It's very nice looks like it has a big scratch on the obverse but other than that it looks to have been a strong stuck coin and very nice :) ... Can't tell if its been cleaned or not from the pics but very nice

does anyone have any ways to detect if it was counterfeit?

If the diameter and weight are correct, then it is almost certainly gold as any other metal would result in a noticeably underweight coin for its size. Of course, that does not tell you whether the coin itself is genuine but it is worth mentioning that there are counterfeits around will full gold content with most of them originating from the Middle East in the 50s and 60s.
