Picked up a contemporary counterfeit KG III last night at the local coin club.

Attempting to ID these is tough because there are so many. This one looks like either 1775 or 1776.

Well, one source says the true Machin's Mills coppers were all dated 1778, 1787, and 1788, and I can clearly see this one's date ends in 6 (and probably 76). An attributed twin probably exists out there! Keep looking!

Contemporary forgeries of these are so numerous by type of these, that it will be almost be impossible to complete a scholarly study that encompasses all of them, especially when examples like this one have seen so much circulation.

With the amount wear, I can only suspect that this one is dated 1776.
