Hi, This scan really doesn't do it justice but I don't have a camera that can get a real close up. I found this with about 120 Eisenhower dollars I inherited recently. As I was organizing them this one stuck out. In the scan the area in question on his cheek looks sunk in when in reality it is a raised smooth area and not ground in so to speak. Is this anything of consequence or do I have a $1.00 coin? Mike

I'm a novice at looking at these things. My gut reaction is that you have $1 of interesting PMD to keep or spend as you please. Experts may have a different opinion.

I'm just not sure. The scan in terrible unfortunately. If it's PMD (I had to look that term up. I'm learning the tools of the trade), then it's like someone dropped liquid metal on it. The area is raised.

It looks like PMD to me also. You say your camera can't get a close-up. Is there a macro setting on it? It looks like a tiny flower icon. John1

Flower found! Ok. Took some pictures with the macro. The more I look at it, it's probably PMD. Maybe someone in a metals shop didn't like Ike.

Ok. The coin is sitting on my desk and I keep looking at it and thinking. If it was PMD, it would take quite a bit of force to do the damage. So you would think the back would be damaged too. So I took a picture of the back. It's very nice. So I took another picture of the front from a different angle to show the damage. Still nothing? Only PMD? Mike

I get coins like this all the time when I roll hunt. I think it might be the coin counting machine and they get hung up for awhile in a roller or something.

A coin machine did that while separating and counting the change.
