Hello, I have acquired the 3 coins shown below over the past year and I don't know what they are. Well, one of them, COIN #1, I think might be a doubled die, but I'm not sure -- it could be Mechanical Doubling or Die Deterioration. I just don't know. COIN #2 I have no clue as to what it might be. Just stumped on this one. COIN #3 is a Roosevelt dime that looks like it has a big chunk out of it at about 8 o'clock. I would sure appreciate any help on these. Thanks COIN #1 COIN #2 COIN #3 *** Moved by Staff to a more appropriate forum. ***

Thank you, John1. I was afraid that first coin would be impossible to read. I'll see if I can get a closer view, but bad as I am with photos & scans, I don't think we ought to count on it!

Very nice dime; I have a nickel similar to it. The dime looks a little MAD too.

Thanks to all of you!
Coppernickeldaddy, I hate to show even more ignorance than I already have, but what's a MAD?

MDS308, What's a "Woody?"

A 'Woody' is a nickname for copper/bronze coins that take on or develop a wood grain appearance. This is due to an improper alloy mixture. Some look more like wood than others. Here is a link to one of my numerous Woody posts. I just learned of them and like their looks. https://goccf.com/t/137959

MAD is Mis-Aligned Die.
If both sides of a coin are doubled, its almost always mechcanical doubling.

Can anyone tell me how an "Indent Error" occurs (see my '69 Roosevelt)?
Thank you.
