Hi all. I have the chance to purchase a toonie struck onto a loonie planchet. I have seen/held it and it is the width of a toonie but a little thinner than a loonie planchet normally is... likely due to the metal spreading in the die.

It is a match for the one on Patrick Glassford's site, coinscan.com. The lady pulled it from an original mint roll back in 1996 and has hung onto it since then.

She is not a collector and would like an impartial third party opinion as to its value. It is certainly Unc. Sorry for the blurry photo, she caught me by surprise with it and I didn't have my good camera with me...

What do you fellows think is a fair value for the coin?

Any help is appreciated.

Regards,

Fenian

Would love to see the result of an XRF analysis of this coin. There are a few different planchets used in 1996 by the Mint - I have one that would be easily confused with a loon.

If you have interest in zapping the coin, PM SPP who is the zap-master.

If ever this coin comes to the market, I would think of an offer.

Fenian, did you used to be on CCRS, with the same username?

I can only assume you bought this beautiful error. If you can, bring it along to Nuphilex this spring, just watching t_y's reaction would be worth the price of admission!!

Welcome to CCF, you'll find quite a few old CCRS folks here...

Thanks SPP. I just got my first DSLR so I can finally take some good photos of my coins.

What would you like to see first- 2006 25 cent first strike brockage? 1950 Arnprior $1 struck through wire error? Or my 1968 1 cent 150 degree CW rotation error?
