I've been in a bit of a slump lately. I was going great there for awhile. My one LCS hasn't ad anything in the past couple months. I did pickup a few Prestige Sets before Christmas.
Anybody else collect the Prestige Sets? They all have a modern commem in them. I'm 4 away from having he complete set.

We just started and have to admit I made a boo-boo. I picked one up for hubby on Proxibid and forgot to check the condition of the box. Luckily the presentation case is fine but the box had "stuff" on it. I was able to clean it off but there are marks (yes, that bugs me).
1991 Rushmore - the set is beautiful and we will continue with them. Hubby really likes them.

I picked up a few of the early ones, but when I decided to focus on building an uncirculated set of modern commemoratives (vs. the proof versions of each coin) I stopped collecting the Prestige Sets. I still have the ones I purchased, however.
Each is an attractive set and a nice way to collect proofs of the annual regular issues along with the year's silver commemorative dollar. Good luck with completing your collection!

Quote: Anybody else collect the Prestige Sets? I have the 1988, 1990, and 1991 Prestige Proof Sets. All three were bought directly from the mint and given to me as gifts from my mother. I will never part with them (or break them apart). I have considered acquiring more of them, but probably will not until all of my current Dansco projects are completed.

I've been stacking these for awhile and will continue to do so at the right price. They seem to be the black sheep of silver dollars. Many of these coins have already gone in the melting pots and as silver rises many more will be lost forever. They seem to be a good long term play on both numismatics and silver bullion. I prefer these to buying foreign silver coins at the same percentage over spot.

I got the White House 200th Coin tonight for $34 in OGP. Indian does make a good point. These being not wildly collected does keep their prices down. They do have the same silver content as a Morgan or Peace dollar. If silver goes up many of mine will have been bought for under melt but still carry a numismatic premium.

I agree, it wouldnt take much of an increased interest either to start to move the price up on them either. Plus the vast majority look fantastic

Egads, I won a 1986 proof premiere set for $35 today (including buyers premium). Looks like I now have something to fill my time while looking for my Oregon and hard to fill 3cn's!
Still drooling over old coppers but those are on hold for the moment.

I have also slumped off with the modern commemoratives. The mint produces too many types. It;s starting to look like the 1930's again.
