Got this from my LCS, for what I felt was a great price. Based on what you see, what would you have paid? I'll post my cost a little later. It's raw, and probably XF/AU. Shows evidence of a possible cleaning in the past.

5? I'll give him 10! JK, I would pay more for this one. While it may have seen some action, it looks well struck to me. The areas that tend to be weaker all seem to be well struck to me. I think you did well and this is a nice one!

While almost any Oregon Trail Memorial half-dollar is a wonderful example of what can be done with coin design when placed in the hands of true artists â€" and the Frasers certainly were true artists! â€" I'm afraid I wouldn't pay very much for a coin that "shows evidence" of a cleaning. I'm assuming, of course, that by "cleaning" you mean an abrasive form of cleaning that has scratched the coin's surfaces.
In my view, the Oregon is far too common of a coin to purchase one in "damaged" condition when so many lovely examples are out there waiting for a nice home.
How much would I pay? If it has been abrasively cleaned, not more than $50 to $60.
Please understand that I'm not trying to be overly critical of your purchase, just sharing my thoughts per your original question.

commems,
I agree. I paid less than your guess, and I wouldn't have paid much more than I did. I bought it mainly because Graysheet bid is $115 in XF, and I thought even with the possible cleaning it was a bargain to resell. It looks much better in hand than my not-so-good photographic skills show.

I do not see evidence of 'harsh cleaning' in the photos ... and defer to CND personal evaluation of the coin in hand.
If he is happy ... then I am thrilled for his acquisition of the tremendous coin.

$40 is a great price. The coin is much better than XF -- in fact I don't notice any wear.
