I had some difficulty because of the 100 KB file limit - I see others have larger images that look much better. So I tested it downloaded it one was 580 KB (recent 1938-D nickel for grade) when I downloaded it yet my original one was about that size and couldn't get it to go.

Maybe it's just me, but it looks like it was cleaned at some point.

The rim shows signs of an old cleaning. Not sure what's going on with the reverse. Is this pitting?

Thanks everyone for the feedback. I was thinking VF too, BadThad. I find it interesting that everyone here and myself think it is in the VF range. I brought it to the coin dealer this morning and one of the clerks told me it was G/VG. Based on your feedback, an article I read in the December 2012 Coins Magazine that compared wheats in various grades and based on pictures/descripitions, I felt it was in the VG category too. Telestrat27 - I feel it had been cleaned too based on the coloration. Would it be safe to say this coin is worth about $15 or so?

Post larger pictures. There looks to be jaw/cheek separation which is the primary indicator for VF. Also, all of the wheatlines appear to be intact, something you don't see on a G/VG coin.

Based on these pictures, the coin is a minimum F12 and a max VF if there's cheek and jaw separation.

Wow! Great for a circulation find! Congrats!
Some bigger pics would be better but based on these probably a VF-20/25 maybe down to a F-12 but no lower.
For the value I'd say to check what there going for on ebay (ending soon/already completed) but I wouldn't guess more than $5.. Especially with a cleaning.
There's a few on there now for between $3-$5 that appear to be close to yours. I got a solid VF maybe a EF, Uncleaned for $5... Granted I bought a lot of the guy and he offered that as a bonus.. But when I asked him how much for it he said he sells them on ebay for $5...
Are you using RedBook for your value estimate? I just had to ask as they have the F-12 at $15 & VF-20 at $16, because there prices are always high. Like I mentioned your best way to check real world prices is to look at completed ebay listings or subscribe to the "grey sheet" (dealer guide)
Numismedia.com has the F-12 at $10.35 and the VF-20 at $11.50 and there prices (although closer than RedBook) also tend to be a tad high.
But again, no matter the value it's still a great find!! Congrats!

I was able to find out how to zoom in much better on my pics. Here are three - a better look at both the reverse and obverse, and a closer shot at the V.D.B.

I don't know if I see jaw/cheek seperation. So I will go F15.

Thanks everyone! BadThad if it means anything the lettering looks much more crisp in hand versus the photo. I certainly agree the coin from looking at it too has been cleaned at some point. I wonder why the coin dealer tried to say it was either G/VG? Even though I didn't believe him. He held it and examined it. NathanASE, I was basing it on original predictions of it being VF-20 based on my subpar photos. Funny enough, the 1983 RedBook I have gives a more accurate price than the 2013 RedBook! (1983 lists the 1909-VDB in F-12 at $3; 2013 lists it at $15).
