Hard to tell from those pics ...but the S looks like a different strike quality than the date...

Hi kijiji2012, I'm pretty sure it's a fake.

The VDB on the reverse doesn't look right to me also the 'S' mint mark.

Bigger pictures would help especially on the two things I mentioned.

It's a fake. The poorly formed S is a dead giveaway. It looks nothing like what the S looks like on authentic examples. Here is a link regarding 1909-S VDB authentication:

are you aloud to sell this on ebay and list it as a "possable fake" with a starting bid of .01? or do they not like that?

Sorry, its 100% fake... the "S" is way off, and the coin looks like it was made from sandblasted dies.

Amen to that jbuck! THANK YOU THANK YOU for this posting, a rather devious person in this town has been trying to get me to buy "his" 09-s VDB for months now. My gut has told me to avoid that coin like the plague, but always with a lot of doubt. Now after seeing the authentic/fake coins and what to exactly look for, it's a fake.

Everybody go get a glass of water, on me!

Thank you very much for that link, cwb8539! I now feel much better about the authenticity of my own 1909SVDB.

Oh -- and kijiji2012... I think foxwoods was just saying the penny itself is a real penny, but the mint mark and the "VDB" on the back are fake.
