I found an old quarter and was hoping someone could tell me more about it. I am new to the coin collecting world (although I have a few coins my dad left me that I hope to research soon as well). Can anyone tell me anything about this dateless Standing Liberty? I've looked up a few things...and see that it was probably made in Philadelphia since there's no mint mark. The base of the gown seems to turn near the ankle, which would lead one to believe it was an earlier edition, correct?

Can someone take a look and let me know?

You have a dateless Type 2 Standing Liberty quarter, it would have been minted sometime between 1917 and 1924. Type 1 was minted 1916-1917 while the Type 2 mintage started part way into 1917. Type 2 can be identified by the stars under the eagle on the reverse as well as a few differences on the obverse that cannot be seen due to wear. SLQs were actually minted until 1930 but the date was modified in 1925 so it became recessed and did not wear off like the 1917-1924 dates. Since it is dateless, you basically have a quarter worth its silver content which is currently about $5-6.

That's a pretty good start to your collection.
