This one was not what I was looking to add to my US type set today when I checked out my LCS, but I couldn't pass on the price and the eye appeal. I had in my mind that this was an AU50 at least, with wear on the high spots. It has a nice uniform toning of yellow, which added to the appeal for me. Would this possibly grade higher than AU50?

The lettering on the edge is really nice, and a quick perusal of the internet puts this variety as an Overton E19 (ALF instead of HALF)

I think it does make AU-50 but not any higher. It's a decent coin for the type set.

I don't think it was wiped, in person, its toned yellow, no scratches or hairlines that would seem to indicate cleaning to me. It also has some luster left viewing it in hand. The dark reddish/brown isn't on the coin, just in the photo, I can't seem to get a good photo.

Thanks for all the replies so far on the grade. I paid a slight premium over EF40 but less than a EF45 coin. I wish I could get a better photo of it, it truly has uniform yellow toning and some mint luster remaining.

XF 40. I would wager it has been dipped at least once.

This one came out of an NGC EF-40 slab

IndianGoldEagle, thanks for posting the photo of the NGC XF40. My coin has less wear on the obverse and reverse. I am curious though as to the strike quality of mine, and how the edges were not as detailed, while still having great details on the edge lettering. I would also like to say that the color in your coin is very similar to the color on mine in hand. I just couldn't capture it like that. Thanks for posting!

This is a nice coin!

Obviously a Late Die Stage minting (missing many dentils and stars and letters drawn to the edge).

I would grade this EF-45.

I think it would grade AU-50 at the most. Nice coin!

Either a XF45 or a AU50. Does not appear to have much luster left so AU50 may be a stretch. Nice coin!
