To the OP - because of your original notice in here about needing the matte proof '98 Kennedy 1/2 $ coin for your album, I moseyed over to ebay & picked up a graded one for under $150 shipped ... not so much that I needed one per se. Had not even known of them until your post - I think it's cool as a proof item alone by itself.

zookr - I have been checking ebay and other sites daily for a good bargain price on one of these 98 S Matte proofs. I missed a 135.00 (might have been 130) Buy it Now on an MS69 a couple weeks ago. I'm not sure how I missed seeing the 150.00 one. Congrats on a good buy

zookr, glad I could inspire you to collect a lovely coin like this. I found quite a few graded examples of just the half, but I wanted the entire set in OGP. So getting one in decent shape at 300 or less without me having to sit up at 2 AM sniping bids was getting frustrating. Gtallen, don't even mention that Jefferson. Getting that Botanical set is gonna cost out the nose too. OK, better pics...

When are you getting the 1964 SMS Kennedy? Sounds like that is all you are missing besides varieties.

Gee, I am kind of disappointed. With Robert Kennedy on a dollar coin and John on a half dollar, it almost seems like Robert was more important than John.

@perfessor The Robert Kennedy dollar was issued to commemorate his assassination thirty years prior. JFK was honored by a circulating yearly issue coin since 1964. The masses saw and held the JFK half but collectors only had the Robert Kennedy dollar; so in my opinion JFK was highlighted more. The Robert Kennedy Dollar was issued as a BU or proof and also available with the foreseen set with the matte proof JFK half. The set was to commemorate the death of two popular political brothers both assassinated. The results are the lowest mintage Kennedy half dollar as it was issued as a commemorative separate from proof sets. And the Robert Kennedy dollar holds the distinction of having more BU releases than proof due to this sets offering. I think it is the only one with this curious distinction.

Quote: When are you getting the 1964 SMS Kennedy? *choke* (Where is the blowing coffee through your nose icon when you need it? LOL) Ummmm, you DO realize there is an estimated 15-50 of the supposed 1964 SMS sets out there right? And that the examples of the Kennedys that have gone through auction houses have gone for 10-15 thousand? Are you sure you don't mean the 1964 accented hair proof?
