I saw a 1887 CC Morgan silver dollar for sell on ebay. Did Carson City mint any Morgans that year? they do not show on my list. If not why would someone make a fake coin for a year in which they where not minted?

Oh WOW

That is an error that is worth millions! It was secretly smuggled out of Carson City by unknown suspects in a Mexican donkey cart and hidden in the Oregon wilderness to wait for the parachute landing of DB Cooper 85 years later. Ol' DB took his $200,000 and the 1887 CC that had been waiting for him, went to Europe and traded the money and the coin for the second known 1933 Double Eagle. He promptly drilled a hole in the 1933, put a chain through it and wore it around his neck for the rest of his life until he died in a Florida retirement community two years ago.

Or it could be from Chinese counterfeiters that could care less about design/date/mintmark combinations...

Biokemist, you're killing me! Yes, it is definitely bogus. There were no dollars coined at Carson City in 1886, 87 or 88.

I have seen some really sloppy Chinese counterfeits, so that is definitely a possibility. You would think that counterfeiters would at least take the time to make sure that their "products" look like coins that actually exist ~Jim

How much was it going for? Some counterfeits are still mostly silver.

It sold for $105 and had eight bidders.
