Detecting Cleaning On Coins

I'm learning all the time, but having difficulty determining what and what is not cleaning.

Take this example from a respected uk dealer

Are they not scratch marks from cleaning? or are those marks different and can you possibly give an example of a cleaned coin which is scratched due to it.

The obv has too many parallel lines which means probably wiped. The rev looks great to me. nlp

they wiped off the easy aprts, but not amongst the details along the rim on the obverse

Looks like the obverse was lightly wiped - maybe quite a long time ago - and looks like it has retoned.

That said, it is 160+ years old and it looks pretty nice considering. You certainly wouldn't want to pay full list on it, but it still has some appeal for some collectors I believe.
