Tights24 and I were playing today with his Olympus C-5500 to see what needed to be done to make it take good images. The problem is, we found nothing to play with. It needed no real help to be good right out of the box. Mind you, this is a 5MP camera you can pick up for $20 on ebay. No adjustment (save using manual settings), no white balance setting, just throw it on to the copystand and pull the trigger:

The Morgan stunned me. First shot once we figured out exposure, and it did this? Really? For the record, the original image of the Morgan was 1800px in diameter, and the Buff (having moved the camera even closer) was 1500px. So, with stuff this sharp you can afford to back the camera farther away from the coin, thereby improving your chances with lighting. No need to shoot big and downsize - just shoot to the image size you desire.

Unreal. Um, buy one. I'm going to.

Is that Morgan as small as the Buffalo - or is that Buffalo as big as the Morgan?

Nice shots by the way!

Those are both first efforts - the first two pics bright enough to post here - and in no way represent what this camera is going to be capable of. Longer exposures (or some other adjustment for brightness) and careful research into the appropriate compromise between distance and lighting needs are going to place this camera among the very best P&S's for coin imaging.
