Does anyone know a cheap way to take photos of coins? Lol. I can't afford any of the big time set ups like a lot of people had, so does anyone know how a cheap microscope with a camera or something? Any help would be highly appreciated
Thanks

I bought my USB Mircoscope at Amazon.com but decided later to get a camera with macro with auto-focus. The camera (Canon PowerShot) came from Fry's Electronics.

That depends on what you consider "cheap" is.

I really like my (new to me) Canon Power Shot SD790IS. It takes real good macros and the (rechargeable) battery life is incredible. I got mine (with an extra battery) for just under a "C" note.

Here are a couple of reviews;

I also have a DinoLite 314T (which is not cheap) USB Microscope for my extreme closeups.

Get one off ebay, I got an 800x USB MICROSCOPE for $40 bucks inhand....$19.99 for the item & $20 for shipping.

The resolution can go from 320x240 or 480x360 or 640x480 or 1280x960 or even 1600x1200...

Find one for just around $20, but look @ the price of shipping before buying ANY ebay item & you will be happy!!

To expand a bit on jokingjoker's link - a thread I created - below are two 100% crops, untouched, straight from the originals. They are underexposed.

Keep in mind, I was working with tights24 and the camera he brought, to try and maximize the capabilities of his P&S. All we did for these results was set it to Super Macro, switch to manual control and manipulate settings until we got something bright enough to see on the screen. No attempt was made to "maximize" the results - no settings tweaks, no lighting tweaks, nothing. We took the first visible images from the camera and posted them here, because it was obvious that his Olympus had the right stuff to image coins. It's very likely - almost certain - that this camera can create even larger images, just as sharply-focused.

Equipped with a little additional knowledge regarding what to expect and what settings those expectations would require, we quit the block of instruction on the spot because it will be easy for him to adjust the camera into The Zone.

As with almost any point and shoot, there will be the additional task of learning postprocessing to maximize your results. Keep that in mind.
