I don't have any idea about the value of this coin. However, I do know a good looking coin when I see one. From the photograph it looks to be in excellent condition, AU or better.

Of course we are looking at the France 10 centimes 1853 with mint mark MA (for Marseille), with mintmaster sign of A-J Beaussier (scallop) and engraver sign of Jean-Jacques Barre (Anchor).
According to the leading French coin catalog (Gadoury), 889145 pieces were struck of this coin. It list as values (in euro, 1 euro = 1.33 USD): Good 25, Fine 50, Very fine 130, extremely fine 400. No prices are listed for better quality.
It is always hard to judge a coin from pictures and its better to do it with the coin in hand, but the pictures that you show here look like a circulated piece. The head of Napoleon III is rather flat and the feathers on the body of the eagle have lost some of their detail. Based on that I would rate the piece as a VF+.

I would agree with Jupke on the VF grade. Look at the amount of wear on the hair, mustache, eagle's wings and other high points.

Well, you can't always expect to get the prices listed in catalogs, but there were three recent ebay sales for far lower grade specimens that each went for $15.00 so I think your 3 pounds was well spent.

With auctions there is no way to tell. If you get a bidding war, far more than you expect. If no interest, no sale.
