What ever you do not clean it up how ever if you have some olive oil it will put a shine on it that will not harm the coin do not rub.

I am not an expert but I belive I close the 1916 and 1917 would Grade Fine

Normally I would agree with scoutjim but these coins do look to have alot of dirt that would come off quite easily and could damage the coins if left there.
Cleanup would be luke warm water with a small amount natural soap in it and a soft bamboo toothpick to gently pry the dirt out of the lettering. Then a pat down to remove excess moisture and let it finish off drying naturally. After that a very light pat down of olive oil.
Please dont ever use detergent and if you're not confident in any soap type just go with a luke warm water soak. Some soaps can really discolour copper coins and most detergents do.
Both coins obverse I would only grade as VG. For a GV obverse to grade fine you need to see the full band across the base of the crown. Even if its only 1 of the lines thats close enough for me but on these they dont exist. The reverse in the 17 1/2d looks to be very nice and if the dirt isn't hiding anything it may get VF or close to.

I'd say VG/F for the penny. VG/aVF for the 1/2d. Both are worth less than a dollar.
