The "8" and the "3" are easily confused. The seller made a mistake. One day your eyes will play tricks on you. Sooner than you can imagine. Now, folks, concentrate on the REAL ebay crooks! The ones that ask thousands for a "coin" that is suspect. They're the ones that need to be identified. Just an opinion.

supgog, Quote:wonder why this listing was moved to Modern US coins forum. 1963 Kennedy is definitely a classic If you read the coins listed for each thread, Kennedy's are in the Modern Thread. I made the same mistake about three times before I got the hang of it.

You can't get in trouble for creating a coin that doesn't exist. Can anyone say curiousity?

thought this was going to be a thread about Daniel Carr's new 1963 and 1975 Kennedy overstrikes! (disappointing!)

my first thought was that they would all be fake, then I checked the seller's location and was sure they were all fake, then I looked at the pic and thought maybe they were ok...glad to see it was just a mix up

Quote: You can't get in trouble for creating a coin that doesn't exist. Can anyone say curiousity? I disagree... Quote:...There is also a section under the counterfieting section of Title 18 that makes it illegal to make or possess a coin or disk in the likeness or similiartude of a US coin. So maybe you can't copy something that doesn't exist, but a 1963 Kennedy half sure strikes me as being similar to a 1964 Kennedy half. VERY similar, only difference being one digit in the date. That makes them illegal under the counterfeiting laws. https://goccf.com/t/138619&whichpage=3#1243949

Quote: The reality is, the 1973 Hobby Protection Act (HPA) superceeds the earlier law. The HPA specifically allows numismatic replicas to be made. It also requires the replicas to be "plainly and permanently marked 'copy'..." http://uscode.house.gov/download/pls/15C48.txt
