I looked ... observed what I expected ... an older Canadian coin in a PCGS holder.
Your post implies that something is amiss ... education (the reason for the forum) would be best served IMHO by sharing what you believe to be wrong .. rather than making us guess.

I brought the coin to your attention because the grader missed an A/V. Does it have PVC damage colouring? I think ICCS and CCCS would give it VF20 tops.

The grader might not have missed the variety ... PCGS requires additional payment from the submitter for variety attribution ... world coins included. Perhaps the original submitter did not know what they had ... or even chose to slab regardless and not pay the extra fee. If this Canadian variety of which I have admittedly zero knowledge is a rare and valued coin ... then I suppose the new 'lucky' owner is fortunate to have the coin. David

Zonad the A/V was easy enough, as for ICCS I would bet a beer that it grades no more than F15 ....but win or lose I would have one anyways, hahaha

Putting the A/V aside, that green crap is only on the higher points, which suggests PVC colouring and not toning. How on earth did that get by PCGS?

I noticed the PVC colouring as soon as I blew the pic up. The A/V is quite indistinct.

OK, a typical bad grading by PCGS. And a complete miss on the variety by PCGS and the auction site.
And, yeah, PVC damage.
Wow, three strikes by PCGS

Someone overpaid for an overgraded coin.Obviously more than one bidder recognized it as A/V,and the green looks scary.Only on a good day would grade VF20 at a Canadian TPG,More than likely F15. There are usually about 10 A/V for sale on ebay, the ones that sell never come close to Trends prices.

The AV 50 cent seem to be very common and easy to locate. The price is starting to adjust. The 25 cent a little harder to find. Zonad I like the chance to look at the link and figure what is missed or wrong makes it interesting sometime. Thanks zonad

Quote: As an aside PCGS cannot grade Canadian coins to canadian standards ......a total joke! This is not a bad thing. I would argue that Canadian standards are sub-par on some denominations, especially coins struck in pure nickel (like nickel dollars and 50-cent pieces) and particularly mint state 1-cent coins. Have you looked at what ICCS calls "red"? What do you define as "Canadian standards"? ICCS grading 10 years ago? What does it say for Canadian standards now when dealers are snipping older embossed ICCS flips like a mad barber, and submitting those same coins back to ICCS for a higher grade? Those same dealers also shun CCCS, because they are "too conservative"...

I believe both companies make mistakes. I am somewhat disappointed with the newer Canadian grading service seems they put a name to anything out there if you pay an extra couple bucks and someone asks
