Ok...

I have bought a bunch of books and coins (uncleaned) late last week. The first package just came in- pretty pumped!

I am going a bit blind here as they books I have ordered have not yet arrived and I am relying on a bunch of online sources right now.

Someone asked to post some pics of the uncleaned coins as they came in- I'll send them in a few minutes.

Ok...here is probably a poor attempt to photograph some of the coins I received today - I'll apologize in advance.

Pretty pumped about receiving them.

Thanks so much for the reply...I really appreciate it!

I can't answer your question...I am a beginner here and the books that I have ordered are still in transit. I thought I would buy a few uncleaned coin lots while I was waiting for the books to arrive. These came today (along with a lot of other smaller coins) and I thought I would put them out for the forum to see.

with Chrsmat

Not a typical uncleaned lot is understated...

I can see Syrian Red Patina on a coin, Islamics and a limited number of Late Roman Bronzes...

The first and second image. Second row 3rd from the left is a Judean coin. Herod Agrippa I.

You guys are good...

I can't wait for these resources to get to me.

I am now assuming that these coins should be immersed in distilled water.

Thanks for the help.

Some of those islamic coins look readable. I bet there is someone that tell you when where and by who those coins where made.

Nice coins Hatter!

I would soak them in distilled water to start. You might try just lightly running your finger over the suface of the coin when it is wet. You might be suprized what detail pops up. Many including me like the sand that is showing on your lot. I would just try to bring out the high points and leave much of the sand patina in place.

I have had the coins soaking in distilled water overnight. I'll take them out later tonight and have a quick look at them. I will definitely need some direction when it comes to these Islamic coins. Again, thanks for the help.

These look like they are going to be fun, difficult but definitely fun

Certainly a varied bunch for an uncleaned lot - lots of different types and dates in here.

First group top right (the little chap) could be a Justinian I Nummis, like this one:

First group pictures 'tweeked' a little, might help:

Coin 6 (bottom row 2nd from left) looks like a Gratian VOT X MVLT XX reverse. Maybe an Arcadius but think I can see 'GRA' surviving next to the bust. Sure you will be able to confirm or deny in hand once its cleaned a little, maybe also read the mintmark. Example Gratian from Nicomedia:

http://www.beastcoins.com/RomanImpe...icomedia.htm

Gil is correct about the one next to it being Herod Agrippa I, example:
