I'm a member of my local coin club and am helping plan our 2013 show. The show has been held annually for 40 years and has a steady, mostly local following that draws 1,200+ attendees.

For 2013 (and beyond), we would like to improve and enhance our show by expanding what we offer to collectors while they are with us.

Currently, we've got a nice bourse with 125+ dealer tables covering the gamut of numismatic collectibles, we present a schedule of educational talks by local collectors/speakers and have a nice educational exhibit area. We also have young collector activities and give out free coins to kids who attend. Lastly, we have an hourly door prize for a show gift certificate.

I'd like to hear from CCF'ers on what made a particular coin show they attended stand out to them (beyond coin buying experiences). Were there one or more special attractions at a show that made it memorable? Did the show's promoter offer some sort of added value to attendees? (Our show is free, so offering a discount on an admission charge is not necessary.) Is there anything that you've always wished could be improved at the coin shows you attend regularly?

I look forward to hearing all of your thoughts and suggestions.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Looks like you pretty much have it covered. Only thing I could suggest is some form of auction. Oh, also maybe a club dinner inviting those wishing to join. Good luck!

One thing I have never seen at a show but a local shop does it is to have someone take high res photos of coins and put a cd. I stink at coin photography. I would like to have some of my nicer examples "professionally" shot. You could probably charge a couple of bucks and put them on a CD. Just a thought.

carmykle/fromms2244: Thank you for the suggestions. I'll make sure to discuss them at our next board meeting.

That is precisely what I've done at the two shows I've attended with CCF. Very few takers, even with them walking past and watching me do it right in front of them.

A thought, commems: Do you guys do the traditional frame separators between booths, with the dealer's name on an elevated sign at the top? If so (knowing that many dealers are jacks-of-all-trades) get those who are willing to also erect a one or two (ish) word sign mentioning their specialty (World, Ancient, Copper, Slabbed Type, etc) so attendees can focus on their specific interest if they desire.

I was literally unable to cover all of FUN during what time I had, looking specifically for Russian coppers, and no doubt I left potentially interesting coins unnoticed on the table.
