Hi all,
I am thinking of specialising in Victorian coins, especially the pennies.
What a mine field !
I have the Spinks book with the pages of Obverse and Reverse pictures. But I still find it complicated when reading the various differences between the different coins.
Such as L.C.WYON, leaves, berries, etc.
Is there a book or site out there that gives information on what all these things mean.
Many thanks.

The two books that are regarded as the bibles of copper are by Freeman & Peck. Peck numbers are used extensively for copper and Freeman numbers for bronze.
So far so good. You are very rich, aren't you? Because these books will cost you a fortune, if you can find them.
Fortunately there is also The British Bronze Penny,Victoria 1860 - 1901 Struck for use as currency by Michael Gouby. Michael is more than highly respected in British coins, he's been in business as Michael Coins since before the flood, and best of all he cross references to Freeman and Peck.

There are also Satin varieties.
You have chosen the most complex series known to mankind. You would need unlimited funds and luck to complete the series.

I only go for the best Bacchus. Just wish I had the money
Thanks for the info Algan.
I've had a look at the Michael Coins site and it looks really interesting. Maybe I shall become an expert on Victorian pennies in a few years time.
I wish !
