A long time ago I ran into someone elsewhere in the forum who said they specialize in maundy money. One of my favourite Bay sellers has had a maundy piece up for months (I suspect his bad pictures are what's killing him--his coins are beautiful, his pictures are . . . well . . . mostly in focus, most of the time) and the price just dropped, and I was going to say "hey, I don't know if this is a good price for maundy or not but--" and then realised I couldn't remember who it was. It's a 1942 two pence for $65 US. I would have never even heard of maundy without this forum and wanted to pass on the word, but WHO WAS IT?

is it item 170965750743

$65 is about twice the price listed for FDC in spink, having said that it's just a guide and a recent 1942 maundy 3d sold for £65.

I collect Maundy, but I have only seven individual pieces of date and denomination, ranging from Charles 11 to Elizabeth 11.

Coinaholic, that is the lot. He's a great seller (very honest, very kind; I bid on an Iranian coin before work and came back to a message welcoming me back to the Bay and enquiring how my Christmas went. I consider this guy my version of a brick-and-mortar) who has the unfortunate handicap of taking very bad pictures. I've gotten dozens of coins from him (both purchased and as "bonuses" in my packages), and the quality is always stunning and better than the photographs. The only "bad" coin I have, I knew was "bad" when I purchased it--it's an 1881 shilling that was apparently used or owned by someone who had a serious issue with Her Majesty, given that her face is scratched off. (I bought it because it's the right time period to have been used by Sherlock Holmes, Dorian Gray, and Phileas Fogg, and I couldn't resist.)

No way in heck I have enough money to buy this coin, but given that I know folks here collect, as much as I love this guy being my "secret source" for cool stuff . . . he's a great guy and if it's a good price, he's definitely worth the business.
