Never own any of these and thinking of grabbing some. Is the premium usually very high for these? I see a local offering around $38 for 2012 Kook. Good price? Bad price?

I think $38 is a pretty good price for these. They have a higher premium than Eagles or Maples.

Good price. The coins are nice with proof-like finish, and they come in the capsules from the mint. Would like to collect all the series, but they started many years ago, so have only 2011 - 2013.
Recommend for the bullion collector.

The earlier years have a mintage of 300,000 whereas the last few years they have started bumping it up which might lower the premium in the long run. 2011 and 12 was 500K I believe, and this year it is 1,000,000. I don't think I'll ever stack these, but I will pick up one or so each year as part of the collection.

I picked up a dozen different years a while back and paid just about $3 over spot. I did buy all they had so I got a bit of a break on the price. They were marked between $35-$40 in the case but my final price was $32.91 each. I'd say a single for $38 is a fair price.

Nice score aandabooks. I would love to come across some of the earlier years at a reasonable price like that.

1. Yes, it is. 2. That's as good a price as could be hoped for---especially if it's coming to you with no shipping charges and no sales tax.

I would assume these have no history of milk spots right?

I haven't seen milk spots on kookaburras, certainly not to the extent you find them on maples. But the early series kookaburras came in a rigid plastic case that was less than airtight and the coins can tarnish easily.

I've heard that the RCM holds patents on milk spots, so if any other mints put out milk spotted silver coins they have to pay royalties to RCM. Because of this, none of the others hardly ever put out milk spotted silver coins. They hate having to pay those royalties to RCM.

About the milk spots: I saw the "2011 Austria Philharmonics" and "2011 African Wildlife" developed milk spots. The Austrian coin mostly have been covered by the spots in the areas, were dealer touched the coin (but not only), while Somalian coin has small 2-3 spots. Need to say, that replaced those coins with the un-spotted ones. Never seen something similar on the Australian Koala, Kookaburra or Lunar Zodiac coins.

I agree with everyone. It's a pretty good price. I recently purchased the 2013 edition and its absolutely beautiful! The pictures online don't do it justice. Like what Silveroid said, it has a proof-like finish and comes in the mint capsule (which I really like. Does anyone know where I can purchase these?). I love the way the mirrored and frosted elements were incorporated into the design. I plan on purchasing another one :)
