It *looks* like a somewhat doubled eye but I see no '57-D DDO in Cherrypickers or VarietyVista. Do you think this is just PMD or Die Deterioration? There is definite Die Deterioration on some of the lettering.

I guess it's just a combo of Die Deterioration and Machine Doubling, since I'm finding the same thing on a many different nickels (although the 43-P looks like it might be toning/corrosion).
