another day, another dime
I have no one else to show these to, my friends and family are SO not interested in coins and the dog cant answer me back so you're all stuck with me

1838
I'm in at XF45 - grading thoughts?

more importantly, S13 is strongly repunched and I see what I think is a die crack running from S3 to S4
I need to send pics to an expert to confirm the variety but in my dreams is a Greer 104/Fortin 110a which would make it an R5

thanks for looking

Very nice, original dime. Congrats!

You're not alone... my family doesn't care a lick about my coins either. That's what makes this website so great... we're kind of like the "Island of Mis-Fit Toys"

Glad you are showing your collection to us! I think there is a chance that this could be AU although I tend to agree with XF45.

First, thanks to all of you for the great comments and kind words.

Second, and this just in, I might have discovered a previously unknown variety of this dime! It is going to be sent off for further inspection to one of the foremost experts of the series.

Based on the pics, his feeling is that this is an Obverse 7 but potentially the first one located without die cracks in it. Apparently O7 has been diagnosed since Greer (G105) as a late state die with crack problems. Fortin has 2 examples in his web book, F-111 and F-111a, each with its own reverse. The strong S13 repunch was the dead giveaway in the diagnosis.

I have yet to locate an early die state example of Obverse 7 without the obverse cracks.

and this is after 30 years of variety searching.

SO if all goes well, this coin you have all so graciously commented on will wind up as part of a book as the lone example of its kind. And THAT deserves a little bit of this

Wow, I know where your coming from with this one! My fiancé (I call her my wife though, we've been close since kindergarten) but anyways, god bless her she pretends to care but the glazed look in her eyes tells me she doesn't.. And when she tells me to shut up... Lol. (She does collect the Alaska mint wildlife coins but I think she's really just pretending and buys them for me.. She gets them, they go in the safe and she never looks again.)
And holy cow are my friends sick of hearing about coins.. They don't even come over anymore... I can't help it if its my #1 hobby... Lol. Thankfully we all have each other here to share with!! So definitely keep them coming!
Again a beautiful dime!!

@coinskelly

NOW I get it! lol

it was a great joke ruined by my lack of attention

I loved that little elf on that special. I like when it looks over Yeti's teeth.

@Nathan

my wife has that same glazed look
my kids as well and my son especially refuses to look at a coin unless its "from George Washington's time in office" because he is in fourth grade and learning early US History. I tried to explain the ONLY way I am EVER going to hand him a GW Era coin to hold is if he agrees to give up any hopes of college since that's the account the money would have to come from in order for me to obtain that coin.
