New to CRH but I've noticed something that many of you probably already know: the West Coast is heavy on 'D' mint marks. I guess this makes sense as I am in California but I never really thought about it before.

I assume this is the same for the East Coast ('P').

I've been working on a Lincoln Cent collection and after going through about 4 boxes of cents, I have yet to see anything other than 'D' from 2009 and on (well, occasionally but not in good shape). Perhaps it takes a while for the 'P's to get out here. Of all dates though, I find considerably more 'D's. And for some reason I can't find a 1986 P. No big thing, though.

I wonder if other members in different areas have similar experiences. Is there anywhere in the U.S. that exhibits a balance. Is latter-date distribution always so unbalanced on the coasts?

Looking forward to your replies.

I've lived in both California and Washington over the past 10 years. 90-95% of the post 1982 coins I find are from Denver. If you're putting together an AU / BU set, I would find someone on the east coast and do a swap :)

Welcome to CRH :)

ps. Stay away from my NorCal banks! :P

IIRC, when I lived in Chicagoland I saw a pretty even distribution of D and P mint marks. When I lived in SoCal, it was all D's. Now I live in southwest PA and all I see are P's. I get startled when I see a D.

Minnesota has Denver coins almost exclusively. At least near Minneapolis this is the case.
